*** PINEWOOD DERBY VENUE CHANGE ***

Due to the forecast for thunderstorms, the Rowan District Pinewood Derby will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church's fellowship hall. All registration and race times will remain the same (12-2pm-registration, 2pm-race) . St. John's is located at 200 W. Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144. The fellowship hall is located directly under the sanctuary. I will have a sign at the door that you will need to enter for the derby. Since the venue has changed, there will not be any food or drinks available at this event so please plan accordingly.

St. John's is currently undergoing renovation and construction so parking is limited. You may park in any of the lots on campus, along the side streets, in the child day care parking lot, the city lot on Council Street or in the bank parking lot across the street if the chains are not up.

Please ensure that you pass this information along to your pack. If you have any questions, you may contact John Barden or myself.

We’d like to reintroduce our district Scout Show to our program line-up to share with the community the fun and exciting things we’re doing in Rowan County’s Scouting program! Our theme will involve Cooking Merit Badge, which is now an Eagle-required merit badge. Units are invited to come put on a display demonstrating their cooking skills and show Scouting teaches this important skill to our youth. Judges will evaluate each unit’s demonstration and will award prizes for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. The Scout Show will begin around 10 a.m. and continue through the Pinewood Derby event. We currently plan to offer soft drinks as concessions, but encourage unit to provide samples of their dishes to exhibition visitors.

Registration for the Pinewood Derby will be held from 12 noon - 2 p.m at the Amphitheatre. Races will be held from 2-4 p.m. Each den (Tigers, Wolves, Bears, etc.) will race in 30-minute intervals. Awards will be presented for placement by den and overall race, as well as for the most creative design. A huge thank you to Pack 306 (North Hills Christian Academy) for providing our race track and helping to administer the race. Race rules can be found on the pinewood derby page (click here). For more information regarding the Scout Show, please contact chair Lucas Safrit. For additional information regarding the district Pinewood Derby, please contact race coordinator Stephanie Mesimer or District Executive John Barden.
