FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 2, 2014

Landis, N.C. – The communities of Rowan County are launching an effort to develop a countywide master plan for the Carolina Thread Trail (The Thread).

The Thread is a network of trails, greenways, blueways and conservation corridors linking 15 counties in North and South Carolina. It offers a multitude of opportunities for biking, hiking, fishing, paddling and connecting with nature and exploring the culture and history of the region.

The Thread is made up of segments that are designed, built and owned by the communities through which the trail network is woven. All Rowan County residents are encouraged to participate in the planning process, as citizen participation is vital to the successful development of a final plan. The public is invited to participate through online and written surveys and through a series of public open house sessions.

A public survey (online and hard copy) will soon be available for citizen input. Beginning January 14, a series of public open house sessions will be held throughout the county to gather additional public input. The sessions will take place on the following dates and will be drop-in style:

Tuesday, January 14th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Saleeby-Fisher YMCA
790 Crescent Road in Rockwell

Thursday, January 16th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the NC Research Campus
Old Cabarrus Bank Building – 201 West Avenue in Kannapolis

Tuesday, January 21st from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the NC Transportation Museum
Exhibit Hall (Building C) – 411 S. Salisbury Avenue in Spencer

Thursday, January 23rd from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Cleveland Town Hall
302 East Main Street in Cleveland

Please join us to receive information and share your input on the location of greenway trails within the communities of Rowan County and learn about the Carolina Thread Trail. The same information will be provided at each public open house.

About The Carolina Thread Trail

The Carolina Thread Trail (The Thread) is a 15-county, two state initiative designed to inspire and facilitate the creation and development of a regional network of trails, blueways and conservation corridors that would link more than 2.3 million citizens. With technical resources and catalytic funding from The Thread, local communities are planning and implementing their portions of this greenway-interstate system. The 15-county region includes Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell,  Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties within North Carolina and Cherokee, Chester, Lancaster and York counties in South Carolina. Catawba Lands Conservancy is the lead agency for The Thread, which is working in partnership with Foundation For The Carolinas and many local partners. Currently 137 miles of The Thread are open to the public. The public can find trails for The Thread: www.carolinathreadtrailmap.org.  For more information: www.carolinathreadtrail.org.
