Roundtable is open to all adults involved with Boy Scout, Cub Scout, and Venturing programs. Registered Troop, Pack, and Crew leaders are especially encouraged to attend. Each month, the program revolves around a highlighted program topic.

Roundtable provides a forum for adults involved as leaders to:
  • Discuss topics of interest, both formally and informally
  • Learn about upcoming District and Council events and programs
  • Meet and exchanges ideas with other leaders from the Rowan District

Roundtable is held 7:00 PM on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the
St. John's Scout Office, 201-B West Council Street Salisbury, NC 28144.

Good Morning Sapona District Committee Members:

Please plan on attending the District Committee Meeting this Tuesday, May 9, 2017 @ 5:30 PM at the St. John’s Lutheran Church Community Building (home of the District Scout Office).

We will discuss a June District Committee Meeting which will be a planning meeting for the 2017-2018 Scout Program Year (Aug 2017-July 2018).

Also during this Tuesday night’s meeting, we will review our progress towards program delivery to Sapona units during the past month and year to date.

Some areas of concern as measured by the Journey to Excellence Scorecard are:

  • Advancement (as measured by Internet Advancement);
  • Camping (number of youth camping per and by registrations for Boy Scout Summer Camp and Webelos Day Camp)
  • Unit Service Hours (very few units recorded any service hours which is particularly concerning the great turnout and results achieved in our Scouting for Food efforts in 2017 and a great start to Eagle Scout rank advancement for the year);
  • District Governance – our JTE report has not been updated since the end of April but several of our District Committee members are not reflected on the District Roster.  When updated, this attribute will be bronze based on the current members showing on the district roster.  With the number of District Committee members we have, this attribute should be gold if all are listed; and
  • Unit Visitations – our JTE report reflects ~5% of units having visitations in Q1 2017.
  • Youth Protection Training – we have several key unit leaders who have never taken or have let their YPT certificate lapse

Some areas of great progress are:

  • Membership – registrations are up this year; we still need to secure a Program Aide to lead some in school and other programs;
  • Finance – we are at 93+% on the total district 2017 FOS goals; there are still some cards out to be worked and some which need to be worked.  If you are working some cards, please try to make contact and secure the pledge or payment and bring to the DCM on Tuesday.
  • Camp Cards – plenty of Camp Cards are out.  We’ve encouraged units to bring their cards to settle up on Tuesday night at the Roundtable following the DCM;
  • District Committee YPT – 100% of the District Committee currently on our roster is YPT trained.  However, with the issues noted above with our District Roster, please check your YPT training on to ensure your YPT is up to date.

I look forward to seeing each of you at our District Committee Meeting this Tuesday, May 9, 2017 @ 5:30 PM and look forward to your reports on your area.

Thank you for your service to Scouting,

Joe Gettys
Sapona District Chairman
